Thornhill House at The Grange
We are in the process of securing planning consent for a capital redevelopment at The Grange that will ensure excellence in Nursing and Residential Care remains available in our locality. The impact of the project will be felt not only by the elderly residents who choose to stay with us, but by their loved ones and the wider community who support a Parish Statement that recognises the importance of addressing the needs of older people.
The plan is to open Thornhill House at The Grange in 2028 so that we can quickly move to deliver the following benefits:
-
Increased capacity – offering 26 beds (currently there are 19), most with ensuite facilities, will help to reduce our waiting list and better equip us to meet the needs of an ageing population.
-
A new Dementia Wing - providing specialist care for a growing number of residents with more complex needs. This will make it possible for us to provide a safe, secure environment and give additional reassurance to loved ones.
-
Additional end of life care – around 12% of our beds are dedicated to palliative care and we expect this demand to rise. Ashgate Hospice recently honoured us with a Derbyshire End of Life Care Award, because of our ability to provide ‘step-down’ beds for patients who no longer require acute clinical care. We have also received similar awards from NHS Derby City and NHS Derby County in recognition of the high-quality palliative care we deliver.
-
‘Extra Care’ accommodation - for independent living with support nearby if needed.
-
A Well-being Room for staff - providing space to decompress and seek solace when the emotional demands of care feel overwhelming.
-
A designated Community Space – available to groups like the local primary school who make up a vital part of our neighbourhood and bring a great deal of joy to residents.
-
Investment in fundraising and research - to ensure the charity remains resilient and agile in the face of changing economic conditions. It will also make it easier for us to pilot and integrate evidence-based care practices into a more modern, purpose-built environment.
