Leave a Gift in your Will

Help us to futureproof Thornhill House at the Grange

Whilst legacy bequests today will not contribute financially to the imminent move to The Grange, they are still hugely important to this campaign – they give us long-term financial surety, enable us to plan for future capital developments and can provide bursaries for those unable to afford residential care. Our legacy donors will be remembered as people who believed in Molly Thornhill’s founding vision and will enable thousands of elderly people to benefit from a caring home-from-home over the next 30 years.

The difference you can make

We are so grateful for every bequest we receive, no matter what the size. Whatever you give, you’re providing brighter later years for elderly people. Here are a few examples of how a legacy gift can make a difference to those we care for:

£10,000 | could fund the fit out of a resident’s room with specialist care equipment such as hoists.

£50,000 | could fund our activities team for who provide engagement activities for our residents to ensure a fulfilling life.

£250,000 | could fund a new accommodation block for assisted living in the future.

What next?

Leaving a gift in your Will is a very personal decision. In fact, it may be the most significant or sizable charitable gift you’ve ever made. To help you with this process, our team are more than happy to offer support and guidance, should you prefer to talk things through before finalising your commitment. If you’d like to speak to someone about your gift, please get in touch with us at amy.stevens@giftedphilanthropy.com

If you’ve already remembered Thornhill House in your Will, we’d love to hear from you. Not only will this help us to shape our future plans, but it also gives us an opportunity to thank you properly and keep you informed of our work. Any information you share with us will be treated as confidential and won’t be legally binding.

Alternatively, you can complete our declaration form, detailing the type and approximate value of the gift you’d like to make. Whatever the size of the bequest, you can choose to designate this to a specific area of our work or mark it as an unrestricted bequest. Unrestricted funding is really important to us, as this gives us the freedom and flexibility to invest your gift in the area of greatest need when we receive it.

Types of legacy

There are different ways that you can choose to leave a gift in your Will:

Pecuniary – This involves a specific amount of money, for example, £100,000.

Specific – This relates to a specific asset, such as property, jewellery, bank account, artwork or other defined items.

Residual – The most popular in the UK, this is a percentage of the estate paid after all other taxes and payments have been made.

Currently, leaving 10% or more of your taxable estate to charity reduces your Inheritance Tax rate on the remainder of your estate from 40% to 36%. Leaving a residual legacy means you can always meet the 10% threshold to reduce your IHT rate by 4%, even if your estate value fluctuates.
