Why us?
Our charitable mission is entirely focused on promoting the health and well-being of elderly residents in Great Longstone and the surrounding areas. Molly’s husband, John Thornhill, lived and worked in the village his entire life and Thornhill House will always be rooted in the community he loved.
We encourage everyone living here to make the space their own. For some, this means bringing precious personal items from home and for others it’s about trying new activities and making friends over a shared meal in the dining room. Whatever their preferences, we want them to experience a sense of belonging and feel part of the Thornhill family.
Or ‘home from home’ ethos means their stay here is supported by easy access to GP facilities, hairdressers, chiropodists and a regular local library service. We are also incredibly grateful to the wonderful team of volunteers who help to keep our core services and our outreach initiatives thriving. From providing coffee and company to someone feeling lonely, to delivering ‘meals on wheels’ to village residents 365 days a year, their contribution is exactly what Molly Thornhill had in mind when she founded this exceptional place.
